Animal Game: from aardvark to zebra without stalling

The animal game is a classic almost everyone played as a kid: name an animal, the next person names one that starts with its last letter, and so on. Bim Bam Baap turns it into a real game with a timer, points and a JILLA penalty. It is the easiest mode to explain, which makes it perfect for mixed groups.

How the Animal Game works

Pick Animal Game 🦁 and the category stays on "Animals" for the whole game. Player one starts with the letter on screen, say a C: camel. The next continues with the L: lion. Then the N: newt. Run out of time and you land on JILLA and skip a turn. Bonuses still work, so Reverse Order or Vowel Ending can drop in at any moment.

Why it is harder than it looks

After ten turns the easy animals are gone. Suddenly you need an animal starting with a U, a Y or an X, and the whole table checks whether it really exists. Agree beforehand whether mythical creatures, insects and extinct animals count — those arguments are half the fun.

Frequently asked questions

Can I name an animal twice?
That is up to you. Use the No Repeats bonus as a house rule if you want it strict.
Is the Animal Game suitable for children?
The animal game itself is simple, but Bim Bam Baap as a whole is meant for 18+ because of the other themes and humour. Play the old-school animal game without a phone with the kids.
Which letters are the hardest?
U, Y and X. Think about urchin and yak — we will leave the X to you.
